MOVE 2004

For the third year running Manchester plays host to what is fast becoming one of the best events in the festival calendar (although strictly speaking it isn’t a festival) called Move.

It's a four day event with a wide range of artistes to see, and they always seem to attract some of the most prolific bands around. A quick recap: back in 2002 they managed to secure David Bowie as one of the headliners, then last year they managed to get those mega stars REM to do an headlining slot.

So this year Move organisers had a hard task of matching that type of quality, but have somehow managed to do it for a third year running, by getting probably one of the most elusive rock icons to agree to an headlining slot - the mighty Morrissey. Not only that but the other headliners for the other three days are just as impressive, even though they aren’t as iconic.

Madness have got top billing on Thursday (8th July), which will be certainly an interesting show if the reports I have read about their previous live shows are anything to go by. But the action doesn’t stop there - Move have also got some of the finest bands to play support slots, such as Ocean Colour Scene and The Stranglers. This will certainly have a nostalgic feel to it.

The Cure are headlining Friday (9th July) night and will no doubt be playing some new material from their critically acclaimed new album ‘The Cure’. Other bands on the card are elbow and indie-rock gods Keane - who don’t seem able to put a foot wrong at the moment. Also the impressive Longview will be playing as well.

Then onto Saturday (10th July)- which will possibly be the Stereophonics final UK appearance this year. Supporting the Stereophonics is none other than the Pixies - who have sold out all of their gigs on their comeback tour, and are possibly the hottest band to catch this summer!

Then Morrissey takes his rightful place headlining on Sunday (11th July). Again being supported by some of the best bands around including the New York Dolls.

Whatever your music taste, there is something for everyone at this event; even if you don’t particularly like the headliners, there's great support acts! This event is set in the intimate setting of Lancashire County Cricket Ground- and the chances of seeing these big name artistes in such an intimate setting will probably never happen again- so you would be well advised to grab the opportunity now before it is too late. Every Move event has been a raging success over the last two years and this looks set to be the most impressive yet!! See you there!!!!!! Luke Seagrave.
