1994 festival programme The Pyramid Stage burned down a few weeks before the Festival, and had to be replaced by a temporary stage, which is part-powered by wind turbines.

The weather was scorcing hot, with much more risk of sunburn than mud. Parts of the Festival were broadcast live on MTV, and you couldn't help but notice their very obvious presence on the site.

This year had the first death at Glastonbury Festival, from a drugs overdose. There was also a shooting incident on the Saturday night.

A donation of £300,000 was made to Greenpeace, Oxfam and local causes.

The Festival had all of the usual entertainments - music, theatre/circus, cabaret/comedy, cinema, the Green Fields, Kidz Field and the markets.

The (not really a) Pyramid Stage featured (in no particular order): Ride, Rage Against the Machine, Saint Etienne, Jah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart, Nick Cave, The Levellers, Paul Weller, James, World Party, Spin Doctors, Elvis Costello, Galliano, Mary Black, Tindersticks, Peter Gabriel and others.

The N.M.E. Stage was the 'second' stage this year. Performers included (in no particular order) Beastie Boys, Boo Radleys, Manic Street Preachers (uttering their infamous call for a bypass thru the site), The Pretenders, Echobelly, Oasis, Chumbawamba, Pulp, Radiohead, Blur, Spiritualized, African Headcharge, Transglobal Underground, Senser, M People, Björk, Orbital and others.

The Jazzworld Stage included Urban Species, Loop Guru, Outside, and Jah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart and others.

The Acoustic Stage included Trash Can Sinatras, Tom Robinson, Oyster Bnad, Man, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, Mary Black, Gallagher and Lyle, Andy White, Glenn Tilbrook, Bootleg Beatles and others.

The Avalon Stage included The Dharmas, Ed Alleyne Johnson, K-Passa and others.
